M-Men - Jean has a chat with the Phoenix in her sleep

Parent Chapter

Jean awoke in a large, Victorian style room. Terrified, she screamed, but her voice was blocked by something and her mouth wouldn't open. Her eyes darted about the room, taking in the silk sheets and lustrous curtains. It wasn't her small dorm room at the school. It was someplace she'd never been before.

At this point, Jean should have realized that she was having a dream. But, like many dreams, one does not always know they are dreaming until the eventual break from the dream. Plus, the environment seemed too real. Jean pinched herself but didn't move from her reality.

"Hello, Jean," a smooth voice whispered. A second later, a beautiful, curvaceous woman, made completely of orange flames, appeared at the end of the bed.

"You have been a very good girl," the woman said with a smile. "I am proud of you."

"Phoenix," Jean gasped, her ability to speak suddenly returning.

The woman nodded. "All of those people you killed...they were messing up the order of things. They needed to die."

Jean wanted to protest, but instead, she stayed silent, staring into the flames intently.

"You will continue to serve my wishes," she commanded. "Jean Grey. Your name will live in infamy."

Jean felt a paralyzing heat run across her body, scorching her skin. She screamed silently as the pain became inscrutable...and then there was nothing but her dorm room ceiling. Jerking upright, she quickly discovered the woman was gone and she was alone.

"This has to stop," Jean cried softly, tears dripping down her cheeks.
