Better Redux, (Base story by Maximus) - Amy

Amy was always in the shadow of her considerably more popular boyfriend, Max. He was handsome, athletic, and charismatic, with a well-paying job in his dad's company. Amy on the other hand was quite plain and slightly chubby. Max didn't seem to mind this, although occasionally he teased her about how they were in completely different leagues. Amy hated this. It made her feel insufficient and inferior. So one day, she decided to start going to the gym. Getting rid of her chubby midsection and fat thighs would even things out at least a bit, right?

As Amy walked through the inner city, she came across a miserable old gypsy, wrapped in dirty rags, begging for money on the street corner. Amy felt sorry for the woman, so she gently placed a twenty dollar bill in the gypsy's plate. She couldn't explain what was it that made her feel so generous - it was like this woman reminded Amy of her own grandmother.

The gypsy looked up at her and gave her the most grateful smile she had ever seen in her life. Then, the old woman spoke.

"Young lady, I like you. And I want to help you, just like you wanted to help me. So I will grant you my blessing of unbalance. For this one day, you will become better at everything you choose to do or try. And don't worry about the consequences - everything will be paid for by him!"

  2. A stupefied Amy attempts to process what she just heard
  3. Amy immediately attempts to try something out, but it doesn’t go as planned
  4. Weirded out by the interaction, Amy calls up her boyfriend, Max
