A related note from someone with pretty limited, but not non-existent personal sexual experience.
In reality, sex is way over hyped and can in fact be a little boring. And I'm saying that while also saying that, yeah, consensual sex between two people who dig each other, or a pro willingly exchanging money for service with a respectful customer, can be pretty great. Erotica didn't evolve just ad a substitute, it also was created to spice sex up.
The act itself means less than the things that are happening around it.
If you want to make sex meaningful in a story, you need to write around it and contextualize why it's important. Romance writers, who are basically soft core porn writers, got the right of it years ago that the feelings frequently matter more than what tab A is doing to slot B.
Not that there isn't a time and place for that too.
