Just a question. Why are so many of the stories downgrade type stories. In many of the stories here, one or more of the female characters ends up worse off then when she starts. Why can't there be a transformation where the girl is improved, and I don't mean ok now she's good looking but an idiot type of thing. I know the stories are fantasy, but the implications of it.

Well, for one thing...the reader is either going to see themselves as the oppressor or the oppressed in any story they read. As it stands though, most readers who I've chatted with...imagine themselves as the victim in any story. I'm the pretty girl, fattened and nerdified. I'm the high school hunk, converted into a sissy and set to task. I'm the dignified married man who's transformed into an obese, trailer park housewife. I'm the lady lawyer, reduced to the level of 'whore' and walking the streets for the pimp I once prosecuted. I'm the nice collage girl who ends up with big fake tits and working in porno.

The answer is...to some people, the act of 'disempowerment' is a vital part of the erotic experience. I will NEVER be the victim of a magical genie, wishing stone, all-powerful stranger, witchy ex-girlfriend, Master PC...and thus my (our?) desires are safe and almost innocent. It will NEVER happen...just as Smaug will never REALLY destroy Laketown, we will never REALLY be the victim of these situations. It's fantasy...it's safe...and it allows those of us who enjoy them to indulge in a little pleasant humiliation without actually losing our freedom.

Also, one mans downgrade is anothers heaven. I would LOVE to be the subject of the story 'The Fatlady'. The thought of being transformed in such a way - and in the company of a seemingly omnipotent protector who would guide you into your new life of unlimited feminine indulgence - is hardly 'downgrading' to me. In many of my posts and such, woman and men are seemingly reduced to lives of desperate need, sinful indulgence or over-the-top destruction...but if you read between the lines, you'll see that they are often somehow happy with their new lives.

In the real world...my opinions would be different. If I stumbled into some twisted assholes plan to capture his ex-girlfriend , surgically remake her and brainwash her to be his maid, then you'd bet your ass I'm off to the police to put an end to it.

Same situation in fiction, though...and I'm imagining myself to be the transformed victim, and indulging in the feeling of my transformation. That's one of the things I LOVED about 'Spammer' so much. The only real view you have...is from the point of view of the girl slowly being converted into a bitchy, childish, ugly, filthy drunk. I'd never ACTUALLY WANT to be that person in real life. It's a fascinating fantasy...period.

This is a reply, not an attack. I understand your opinion may be different. I'm just making my own opinions known. I have to defend my favorite fantasy :>)

Well, not with an attitude like that, it won't.

Another part of the answer is that it's "easier" to write downgrade stories because there's more inherent conflict when things are getting worse than there is when things are getting better.

I would argue that, if you don't like the material here, the best thing to do is to post your own stuff that you do like. I will admit that I'm not particularly a fan of weight gain, nerdification, and other transformations that make women "uglier" -- so instead, I've reposted some other authors' stories where the transformations result in attractive-yet-slutty women (Hotel Sierra, Maximize Your Pleasure, The Really Great Tip, and The Starr Trilogy). The chapters I've written in the interactive stories here tend to be along those lines as well -- I've turned a high-school girl into a walking wet dream and a slutty geisha, I've turned her mother into a MILF, I've turned all of southern California into some kind of porn-movie fantasy in which a notable percentage of men has become women. (I don't personally consider any of this a "downgrade," I should point out, although I'm sure others might.)

To me, Ive always considered writers for the most part to be intelligent/smarter than average people. And as such growing up, being smart is not always an asset but a social liability. So when women that are considered hot and at the apex of their beauty, are downgraded it brings an element of humiliation that can be construed as sexually erotic. The person that was once so haughty and out of the reach has been rendered to a much lowlier level. The humiliation factor is a key element-and when they lose assets that they once had that gave them their genetic superiority and had it taken away for those who were not as gifted by birth-Its a great justification and an almost karmic balance to it.

My favorites are by JSMT, and Leamus, Katchase, tcheser, HAL (Was one of the first and the best) Greinskyn, (In fact in a lot of my stories-I try to at least have nods to the people that have such great writing)

The BR (Breast Reduce) aspect in humiliation is one of my new faves-though I also love BE as well. WG (but not unrealistic) These stories in my mind are fantasies that are fun pretend retributions and very fun to read

This is interesting to me too. I like a DG, but if it isn't to extreme. I prefer F2F stories mainly, and to me if a woman woke up as another woman whether it was a lateral move or a slight downgrade that would be a really interesting story. Just the idea of becoming someone else is very interesting and it doesn't have to be such a dramatic swap. It's interesting to explore the different aspects of your life that would change in any person to person swap.

For me I'm a fan of TF's so i'm more interested in long drawn out and described transformations. Any kind tend to be fine though I have ones I prefer some over others and generally like them to stay realisticish. Not really into someone gaining boobs as big as a car. F2F with culture change are great too, I also have a preference for asian ones as well.

As to answer you question as to why there are so many of that type on this forum. I think its just kind of how it went. People who liked those stories put them up and so it just kind of keep going that way. I know for a bit some people were trying to claim that this was a WG forum only which is not true.

Also some of my age progression stories also involve characters ending up smarter and happier, like Older and Wiser. I don't exclusively prefer happy endings, but I like for transformations to have some kind of upside, to help explore the concept of contrast.

But what counts as a 'Downgrade' depends on the opinions of both the subject...and the reader. This morning I downloaded your other most recent story ' From Nikki to Nerdy: The Ring of Change Saga', and while most people would call that a downgrade and leave it at that...I would prefer to think of it as an upgrade. The rather shallow, 'sexy' Nikki becomes an obese, gluttonous slob, yes...but she also becomes a genius AND ends the story with a boyfriend who obviously loves her. Granted, the story has a twisted feeling to it, as the boyfriend is using the ring to manipulate her into becoming the obese 'feedee' she ends the story as, but lets save the finger pointing for later. From the point of view of the subject, she'd end the story saying she was upgraded if asked.

Responding to your original reply, I think the concept of "pleasant humiliation" is an interesting one. How does humiliation become pleasant?

I like DG and upgrades, is that UG? or is that taken by uglification. Trait Swaps often cover both angles but depends on the view point of the writer. I have just started writing and posting on here and I am trying to do 1st person perspective but each chapter (24 parts in length sorry) shows only that persons viewpoint. In my current story I intend 4 chapters each of 24 parts, with all the chapters interlocking together on one timeline and one overall plot. Maybe I am being too ambitious but in for a penny.......

Also it lets me get a lot of stuff in.
