~ CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO
Bonnie had indeed put on additional weight, majority of the pounds landed on her breasts and belly, but her hips and thighs weren’t exactly spared.
It was an hour after the diner was closed, Bonnie currently held the kitchen and clean up position, and she was dutifully sweeping the floor. Truth be told Bonnie was anxious about becoming a waitress again, yet she didn’t complain about the demotion, it was work and the type of labor which she could commit too without much stress.
Bonnie’s black hair hung straight downward, slightly curling while flirting with her shoulders, a red bow set toward the back of her mane for decoration. The weight Bonnie had accumulated didn’t play fair with her face, manufacturing a doughy condition along with the chubbiness, acne remaining over her forehead, and especially her cheeks.
Bonnie’s work garments were a drab multi-colored flannel shirt worn open, exposing her red undershirt and worn out gray sweatpants.
Bonnie’s knockers had reached double D’s, the tissue soft and mushy, their shape holding a distinct roundness, the growth to her belly was impressive, a blubbery circular shaped sphere which soared away from her body but sagging due to gravity. Bonnie’s hindquarters had fatten but not in the same proportion as her belly, likewise drooping, smacking her chunky upper thighs while in motion.
There was a knock on the glass door, Bonnie’s belly bounced as she quickly veered her body toward the door, her big smile advancing the size of her second upon recognizing somebody she hadn’t seen in a very long time.
It was Hawk, and Bonnie’s heart skipped a beat, she hurried over and opened the door.
Despite Hawk’s casual garb, a black T-shirt and blue jeans, Bonnie experienced a severe case of goose-bumps while gazing at him.
Hawks smile was slick, his body language confident as usual.
“It’s been a long time, Bonnie, mind if I come in?”
Bonnie instantly became tongue-tied due to nervousness, she simply nodded and held the door open for him. Hawk breezily entered, scrolling his eyes over Bonnie’s thick, flabby body, pointing over to the booth closest to the door, “We’ll sit over there.”
Bonnie escorted Hawk to the table, a mere four feet away from the door but she was trembling with excited energy throughout the short walk.
Bonnie released a modest sigh, her smile revealing her nervousness, “We’re closed, so I can’t serve you any food but there’s coffee. It’s kinda of old, I kin make ya a fresh pot if you want?”
“Just bring me what you got…” Hawk smiled, “…that’s fine.”
Bonnie’s face lit up and she hurried over to behind the counter, her flabby body swishing from side to side with every step. Hawk did notice, estimating it was like Bonnie’s svelte figure was trapped inside a fat cocoon.
Bonnie had returned to the booth with coffee for them both, sliding unto the other side, dotingly gazing at Hawk for a moment before addressing the elephant in the room. It took much strength, courage she had long thought dormant to admit in a melancholy drone, “I know I put on weight and got fat but I’m happy you called on me, I never see any of the old gang anymore they’re all busy housewives, and I reckon Larry’s has a lot go’in on too.”
“That’s why I came too see you, I heard you changed, it piqued my curiosity”, Hawk directly affirmed.
Bonnie tilted her head in a submissive mode, her fingertips stroking the coffee cup handle, “I guess Larry must have told you, he didn’t recognize me when last I saw him, months ago. He told you, right?”
Hawk concurred with a nod, Bonnie wagged her head, her eyes racked with emotion, “How is Larry doing? I think about him all the time, I know he’s been helping you around your new home.”
Hawk’s face was captured with surprise, “Yeah, Larry busted my chops about you but where did you get the idea he’s been helping me with my home? I think he’s been over to my place a few times for beers, I usually see him at the bar.”
Bonnie lowered her eyes, her lower lip trembling; Hawk withdrew a package of cigarettes from out of his pocket, Bonnie’s emotional tailspin at being lied to causing her to wheeze.
Hawk removed a cigarette, squinting while not sugar coating the facts, “You’re the one who said you wanted to be friends, and on top of it, you got heavy. You sort of gave Larry an out, lying isn’t right, but what else could he do.”
Bonnie removed her glasses and wiped her eyes, “Can’t believe he could be that shallow…”
Larry lit his smoke, “If I recall, you thought his position as pig farmer a deal breaker in your relationship. Funny isn’t it?”
“How is it funny?” Bonnie winced.
“You rejected him because you consider his job a career for lowlifes, and here you are, a female janitor and dishwasher. That’s what I call a cute comeuppance.”
Bonnie spoke through her sniffles, snorting a couple times as well, “Please don’t be mean to me, it ain’t my fault I got fat…”
Bonnie tried to keep Hawk’s respect with adding a lie, “….I have been dieting, I’m gonna be skinny again.”
Hawk demurely grinned, he found Bonnie’s fractured vocabulary amusing, and what more, he could see right through her lie.
Hawk flicked an ash onto the saucer, Bonnie began to say, “Oh, you know there’s no…”
Hawk flashed a wide, arrogant smile, Bonnie quickly remembered that doing whatever he wanted despite social norms is what made him cool.
“You claimed a while back we have chemistry”, Bonnie’s voice cracked, “…You still feel that way?”
“You think if you looked like this in high school I would have approached you?”, Hawk replied with a hint of smugness.
Bonnie dropped one arm over her pulpy belly bulge, her features curdling in a manner which inflated her second chin.
“You’d like to kiss me”, Hawk sharply uttered.
Yeah I would”, Bonnie’s grin completely dorky.
“I would kiss you, but I’m afraid where it would lead”, Hawk’s remark causing Bonnie to wince.
Hawk finished his coffee and cigarette in that order, dropping the cigarette butt into the empty cup. “Well, it’s been a ‘real ’big pleasure’ seeing you, don’t get lost in the kitchen.”
They stood up simultaneously, on route to the door, Bonnie awkward asked, “Please stop by and visit me again, I love talking with you.”
“You oughta meet me some night at the bar, I’d buy you a beer”, Hawks smile was ambiguous, Bonnie couldn’t read him.
“I don’t belong in those taverns you go to”, Bonnie noted with an embarrassed expression.
They stepped outside into the night air, Hawk shook his head, “You know a while back you had it all over me, and while my lodging isn’t the hilt like yours, it’s good enough for me, and I’m working full time at the Cartier Food Company. I don’t have the heart to call it out but some people would say you’re below my level.”
Bonnie blinked, shocked at Hawk’s comment yet couldn’t deny his smooth charm, “Hawk, if we could patch things up between us, I’d appreciate it, I know my attitude toward you used to be shitty….”
“And that’s the thing Bonnie, you’ve changed, really changed, it breaks my heart that you’ve become a calorie queen, I’m unfamiliar with who you’ve become”, Hawk emotionally stated.
Bonnie pouted, “I’m happy you’re doing better but can’t you please be a little nice to me?”
“Hey, this is nice but you still have a negative opinion about the bars I go too”, Hawk half-smiled, “Remember saying I was white trash? Ain’t ya afraid hanging out with me will sour your reputation?”
Bonnie wagged her head, “My reputation as what? I might well be white trash.”
“That’s a step in the right direction for you”, Hawk cheekily smirked.
Bonnie heaved a sigh, “Oh Hawk, Larry rejected me, please don’t do it too…”
Hawk briefly chuckled, “And you once said I could learn from Larry? Nah, baby beluga, I won’t ignore you. I guess that makes me the better man.”
Bonnie ignored the baby beluga comment, a radiant smile plastered over her face, “I’ll get back inside and write down my number fer ya, k?” she giggled.
Hawk nodded, “Hurry up”, he said in a demanding tone.
A minute later Bonnie returned, nervously muttering while handing him a napkin with her phone number, “You…you’re da…be..ber…better man, then you….you…you…you’ll call m..m…m..m..me?”
“I don’t play with hearts, sweetie”, Hawk straightforwardly admitted, “Even though I kinda guess talking plain probably upset you.”
Bonnie shook her head, “I like being around you, talking with you is crazy cool, you’re so smart.”
“You should have thought like that in high school”, Hawk said as he began drifting away, “But be sure you’ll hear from me, and I’ll get to seeing about Larry treating you like crap.”
“Hawk!” Bonnie called out while he was ambling toward his sedan, “You don’t have too!”
Hawk reached his car, turning around he dramatically saluted Bonnie, yelling back to her, “Whatever you say, honey!”
Hawk slipped into his car, Bonnie watched as he drove off, gushing out loud, “Honey..”
