What if? - Her Ex's New Girlfriend, a professsor that's ten years younger than Jean and waaay slimmer!

Parent Chapter

"Just my luck," Jean muttered to herself as she sat down in the campus' cafeteria with Emma. It was their lunch break and while Jean was pretty hungry, she was planning on skipping it. However, Emma was having none of it. She practically shoved Jean out of the room and made her join her in the cafeteria.

"You're makin' a baby in there. Eating fer two, right?" Emma asked, sliding an extra box of chicken nuggets at Jean who had only picked up a Caesar salad. The redhead blushed.

"I ain't makin' a baby but I'm also eatin' fer two!" Emma joked, digging into her meal of two bacon cheeseburgers and onion rings. Emma, noticing Jean was staring at someone, looked up. "Somethin' the matter, Red?"

Jean frowned and her eyes brimmed with tears. "I...I feel so unlucky. My...ex...husband's new girlfriend works here." Jean nervously wiped at her wet cheeks. "She's...a professor. And she's so young and pretty and...skinny."

Emma, not caring if Prof. Braddock noticed, looked over at the raven-haired beauty who was sitting a few rows behind them, eating a tofu wrap and chatting with a few other professors...all of them young and beautiful.

"Oh, I know her. Yeah, Betsy Braddock. From Enger-land. Thinks she's hot shit." Emma shoved an onion ring into her mouth. "If it makes ya' feel any better, she's not very smart."

"Really?" Jean asked hopefully.

"Nah. Teaches basic comp sci classes. I could school her any day of the week," Emma replied confidently. Jean hadn't yet seen Emma in action so she was hard-pressed to believe her...even if her credentials were impressive.

"Well, she still got my husband," Jean replied bitterly. She looked up at Emma. "I'm sorry...that was..."

"It's alright," Emma said easily. "She stole yer husband. It's okay to be mad."

"I'm not mad, I'm just...a little lost," Jean replied honestly. Emma nodded in support and the two finished their lunch in peace.
